Consequences

Genesis 3 has a lot of material we could talk about. Yesterday we looked at how Satan uses temptation in our lives. Adam and Eve take the fruit and take the bait. This morning I want to talk about the consequences of that sin. The first consequence is isolation or separation from God. When Adam and Eve hear God walking in the garden they no longer seek Him out for fellowship and sharing; rather they hide themselves from the presence of God. This is the primary consequence of sin…separation from God. Our sin separates us from God…it causes distance. Then God lists some consequences to Adam, Eve and the serpent because of this sin. I don’t have time to go over these in detail but I want to remind you that often the consequences for sin are greater than what we expect. I maintain that when we sin we make a mental calculation as to the consequences of that sin before we do it. But we’re not really qualified to do that. Often the consequences are far worse than we had anticipated.

Lastly, I want you to notice that it is God who reaches out to bridge the separation. In verse 21 we read, “Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” God took the initiative to bring healing to the relationship. This is a picture of what God offers to us through Jesus Christ. God has reached out to us…taken the initiative to provide a remedy for the separation caused by sin. And that remedy is Jesus Christ. Have you received the remedy for sin? If I can help please let me know.
