Can You Call the Future?

In the midst of this prolonged section on righteousness and faith we read the following verses:  “16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;”  The last phrase caught my eye this morning.  “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did”.  Much of what Abraham believed were things that had not yet happened.   He believed them by faith.  But Someone knew these things were going to happen.  God knew about the things that had not yet existed and God acted as if they had already happened.  God already knew about the uncountable descendants of Abraham before there was one.  I can’t tell you how much peace comes from knowing that I have hitched my wagon to the God who knows the future.  I don’t have to worry about it.  I don’t have to fear it.  I know the God who knows the things which do not exist yet…but will.  I pray that you feel this way as well.  You don’t have to call the future.  You can trust that which you cannot see because you trust the One who sees it all!
