Can “Few” Mean “Many”?

Have you ever had your child ask if he/she could have some pieces of candy and you answered, “You can have a few”?  Then you hear the hand go in the candy dish….and then you hear it again…and by the third time you realize that a “few” has actually turned into “many”.  This has happened to most of us…in fact, most of us have been on both ends of this scenario!  In the case of the candy, you really did mean “few” but the word “few” can also be a comparison type word.   Let’s read the words of Jesus again in Matthew 7:13-14

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Are there really “few” who find eternal life?  The book of Revelation paints a heavenly picture of multitudes of people, an innumerable number from every tongue and every nation praising the Lord.   It seems clear that there will be “many” in heaven.  However, the word “few” is in comparison to the word “many” in verses 13-14.  One of the most tragic truths in the history of the world is that so many people have chosen the broad path without God instead of the narrow path with Him.

Would you be one of the “few” who follow Jesus so you can be part of the “many” who spend eternity with Him?
