Benefits of Belonging to God

If you are looking for a psalm to encourage you as a follower of Jesus then Psalm 103 is a good place to start. This psalm lists many of the benefits of belonging to the one true God. One of the criteria that people look for in deciding to take a new job is the “benefits”. What kind of health insurance or vacation is offered. Let’s face it, we all like “benefits”. Well, in Psalm 103 there are many benefits of God on display. Words like “mercy, redeems, heals, crowns, satisfies and justice” flow through this psalm as a reminder of all that God does for His people. Sentences like, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy” and “as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us” are great reminders of God’s activity in our lives. As we move away from our Christmas celebration, let us move toward the activities and attitudes of our God. There are some very great benefits to belonging to the God of the Bible.
