A Matter of Life and Death

Does it really matter where your mind is [see yesterday’s post]?  Yes, it surely does matter; in fact, it’s a matter of life and death.  Here is what Paul writes in verses 6-7:  “For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”  That’s pretty plain isn’t it?  To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  A mind that has not been transformed by the Holy Spirit through receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord is at enmity with God.  This mind is subject to death and ultimately spiritual death or separation from God. We cannot miss the importance of Paul’s words.  Without Christ no one can even please God, let alone be forgiven of his/her sin.  Yet it doesn’t have to be that way.  If you are reading these words you have amazing access to the truth of what God says about your mind [not because you’re reading my words, but because you live in a time and place where access is more than it has ever been].  Take advantage of that.  Allow your mind to be saturated with the truth of God’s word and to be used by the Holy Spirit.  It really is a matter of life and death…choose life.
