A Great Traveling Companion

At the end of the book of Exodus we read that the Israelites fashioned and made all of the things for the tabernacle exactly as God designed them. The tabernacle is put up and the Bible says in chapter 40 that the glory of the Lord filled the temple so that Moses could not even enter it. That must have been an amazing sight to see and experience. Then at the end of the chapter we read this: 38 For the cloud of the Lord was above the tabernacle by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. God’s presence was visible to His people day and night. I would love to have some video of what this must have looked like. I imagine it was a great comfort to the people to know that God was with them 24 hours a day/7 days per week.

Though we don’t have a visible manifestation of God’s presence, the follower of Jesus has the promise of God’s Spirit. The Bible teaches us that when we receive Christ as Savior we are indwellt by the Holy Spirit, God Himself. He goes with us wherever we go. He is with us when we are the only other person in the room. He is with us when we are afraid. He is with us when we are lonely and He is with us when we are joyful. God’s presence is a great travelling companion. I hope that you can experience His presence with you each day. In my experience that presence is more easily “felt” when we spend time with God in His word and in prayer. God is the greatest travelling companion we can have…and He never asks us to pull over for coffee or to use the restroom!
